"Let Freedom Ring:
The History and
Significance of the Liberty Bell"
Throughout the Museum
through October 11, 2010

The exhibit will trace the history of the Liberty Bell and include "Liberty Bells"
in the many shapes and sizes, many from the Museum’s permanent collection. The exhibit will also explore the Bell’s symbolism and significance as one of the major symbols of the United States of America. The exhibit will be featured throughout the Museum, with the main part in the changing exhibit gallery and two displays in the Shrine Room, one about the Liberty Bell and the Boy Scouts of America, who are continuing to celebrate their 100th Anniversary this year, and the other on the Liberty Bells of Pennsylvania, which includes Allentown’s Liberty Bell. In the Harry C. Trexler Portraits of Freedom Center, paintings and artwork about the Liberty Bell will be on exhibit from the permanent collection. The exhibit will continue in the Museum through October 11, 2010

Museum Hours:
February and March, Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 4:00 p.m.; April through December, Monday through Saturday, noon to 4:00 p.m. Special tours can be arranged for groups, whether during or outside of normal Museum hours, by calling 610-435-4232.

Shrine Room Exhibits and Special Features

• Allentown's own liberty bell, cast in 1769 and rung to call the townspeople to hear the reading of the Declaration of Independence.


• A Fiber-optics map showing key revolutionary war troop movements and the route of the wagon train taking the bells from Philadelphia to Allentown.
